So...this is completely unexpected. The release itself and the style of the music. Very much unlike a typical Momoiro Clover song, Takagi goes for a relaxing mid-tempo tune with a minimal amount of instruments. Her adorable vocals match well with the title and the standard 'never-give-up' style lyrics. I personally am not a fan of Momoiro Clover. Even in my idol phase I never really followed them. But Takagi is surprisingly talented and no doubt this single did well sales wise. I might consider looking out for more from this girl....

First mini-album/EP of Novaurelia; the solo project of piano playing singer-songwriter Mizuhashi Ayaka. Released August 26th (2015).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Mizuhashi has a pretty unique voice that gives me vivd flashbacks of the vocalist of the band nano.ripe. Her voice is very nasally and high, but it's not really grating or annoying (at least not to me). Although her profile says that Novaurelia is a solo project and she's a piano player; all the tracks except the first (which is acoustic style) are accompanied by traditional band instruments. Actually now that I think about it, this EP's musical style overall reminds me strongly of nano.ripe. I'm not the biggest fan of that band (mostly because of the vocalist) but I suppose Novaurelia has a bit more of a whispery undertone to her unlike nano.ripe's singer. I'm not particularly hooked but I'll consider keeping a look out for any new releases.

Background:
A young female quartet that originated from a highschool music club. After winning a small performance contest, the girls started composing and writing original music and actively performing at local music clubs.

A very cute band both visually and musically wise. Their style is pop-rock and while Shibata's vocals aren't very powerful and rather breathy, it's not like any of their songs are dynamic enough to demand the vocalist belt out any high notes. All the girls are skilled musicians and their songs are well done. They have a rather small discography as of now (only two releases since their debut two years ago) but I do hope to see more of them.

Third mini-album from female pop-rock band Powann. Released July 8th (2015).

Ringo's Thoughts:
This release is a bit different from Powann's previous ones, as it's more experimental. The girls play with different sounds and styles throughout the entire tracklist so it makes for a very interesting piece. If you're looking for a more 'consistent' pop-rock style CD, I'd suggest looking at their past releases. Either way, it's still a nice mini-album and the adorable music video is also a plus.

Indie singer Aimyong's second mini album. Released December 2nd (2015).

Ringo's Thoughts:
This album is pretty interesting as the first words you hear from track one are "if I were to die..." sung in a fashion as if Aimyong was shouting to the sky. She is a singer-songwriter so you won't hear any electronic pop beats anywhere here, but the mellow tunes of her acoustic guitar are rather calming, as most of the songs from this mini-album are slow tempo. The overall feel of this album is father melancholy which makes it a nice change of pace if you're tired of upbeat-pop music at anytime.

Ringo's Thoughts
Big fan of Shiggy Jr, all their music is exciting. Upbeat electronic music and colorful music videos. I was in from day one. GHOST PARTY is an fun and poppy electronic tune, coupled with a wacky PV and Kyrary-style vocals. It's a very enjoyable song and the full tracklist even comes with a few GP remixes! The PV and lyrics are the only thing truly Halloweeny about this supposedly Halloween-themed song, but either way I'll probably be dancing to it.

Second nation-wide released EP by singer Koresawa. Released December 16th (2015).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Koresawa's singing is what I like to call a 'sweet type' meaning she has a thin and cutsey sounding voice. Her music is rock-ish with poppy undertones. I found her first EP shortly after it was released and I really liked it. 'GITC' is basically like a part 2, because it sounds like the first EP's fraternal twin. They have the same vibes, which I don'y dislike, in fact I'm looking foward to when Koresawa puts out a full album. She has potential.

Utaite Reol's first solo debut album under Victor Entertainment. Gokusaishiki translates into 'richly colored'. Released July 29th (2015).

Ringo's Thoughts:
I'm not too deep into the utaite world but Reol really does stand out. Her voice is utterly unique and very powerful, which she frequently shows off in many of her covers and originals through some solid belting. She's a 'shota' type singer (according to her wiki page) and she's currently my second favorite utaite to debut professionally. I'm really looking forward to her next release.

Singer-songwriter Yamazaki Aoi's third full length album. The theme of this album is painful, fleeting, yet charming love. Released September 9th (2016).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Yamazaki was one of the first singer-songwriters I got into so any release from her is a happy occasion for me. Compared to her past albums RR has a much more pop-ish sound to it. The acoustic guitar is still present in each song, but more extra instruments are included than in past releases. I still like it...besides, the poppy undertones are pretty soft anyway. I will be honest and say I like her previous two albums better. I hope this doesn't become a pattern going forward, I like her more 'classic' singer-songwriter style.

When she was younger Ayane was in a theater performance troupe where her voice trainer suggested she try out for the seiyuu business.

Ayaneru is one of my favorite seiyuu, not only because of her voice, but because her personality is hilarious as hell. In contrast to her sweet voice type, she's actually very hyper and a total weirdo. In my opinion she's evolved little in her career, but she's young and has only been around for six years; she has plenty of time to build her repertoire and she is incredibly popular as is so there's that too. In 2016 Ayaneru is supposed to voice her first non-human character....I'm looking forward to this.

Background:
Seiyuu and singer Hanazawa Kana's newest music release 'Toumei Onnanoko' aka; 'Transparent Girl'. Released February 24th (2016).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Kana's new song gives off a very relaxed and 'loose' feel, sort of like a song you'd put on replay when going for a walk on a warm sunny day. 'Toumei Onnanoko' plays it safe with Kana's vocals, and doesn't even attempt to try and make her leave her soft singing range. The other two tracks are the same, with the third taking it even further and going full Makino Yui. Well, I don't dislike Kana's voice, her trademark whispery vocals are just that; a trademark. In the end it's another typical Hanazawa-style song, but I do enjoy it.

Background:
Ichiko Aoba is a popular indie singer-songwriter from Kyoto who released her first professional album (Razor Maiden) in 2010 at the age of nineteen after preforming original songs in local venues for several years. Ichiko started playing the classical guitar at seventeen and was scouted by another indie artist after watching her preform at a live audition that she later failed. Ichiko was mentored up until her official debut in 2010 but has remained in close contact with her teacher despite becoming more widely known than him. Ichiko's deep lulling voice is coupled with lyrics designed to transport you to another world. The singer says she gains all inspiration and musical material from her dreams (both awake and asleep) and as such her songs are often as surreal and haunting as a single acoustic guitar and a couple backing instruments can produce. Ichiko has released four original albums to date, her last being in 2014.

Ringo's Thoughts:
Ichiko Aoba really caught my attention when I first stumbled across some album rips on Youtube. Her song titles alone fascinated me and the lyrics just raked me in further. When I read about where she gets her inspiration, I felt an instant attraction, as I myself get material for songs/poems/stories from the same exact place. I become attracted to singers for many reasons, but few have managed to reel me in for the sheer fact of being what I consider fascinating. She's still preforming but she hasn't released anything in a while. I really hope to hear more from her soon.

I'm so proud of these girls! They're truly unique among girl groups and their style has changed drastically since their indie days. The leader of the group, MIYUU, choreographed the entire dance, as she did before with the group's previous single Holiday. SYB is another dance-party jam tune (similar to Holiday) and combines rapping and smooth vocals with powerful and eye-catching dance moves. The PV is the group's most colorful to date and similar to Holiday once again, they collaborated with a fashion brand/designer for the PV's theme and costumes. Happiness is evolving with each new release and it's a real joy to watch!

Ringo's Thoughts:
I don't know much about this girl but I have listened to her past stuff and I'm pretty fond of her classic singer-songwriter style. True to her age her voice is high but has a good consistency. Her type of voice (slightly reminiscent of Silent Siren's vocalist) would go great with pop, but hearing her go the acoustic route is perfectly welcomed. Plus it shows off her talent as a songwriter too. All in all this album is solid and it really makes her more appealing to me. Her first mini album did really well so I hope this album goes up the charts like it deserves too!

Debut single of Bushiroad's new mix media project. Poppin' Party is a the first seiyuu unit to play actual instruments while preforming live. Released February 2nd (2016).

Ringo's Thoughts:
So...for a seiyuu unit produced by the mighty Bushiroad, I was expecting much more of an impact. Besides the fact that they actually play real instrumental when they do lives, there's really nothing special about this unit. I have yet to hear of any band-oriented seiyuu units, so I was really anticipating this release, but I guess I got my hopes up too much. The character designs are cute, the lead vocalist's singing is cute, and according to the character profiles on the website, each one of them has a very stereotypical anime-girl personality. Basically, this band is nothing to get too hyped about. They're pleasant and standard, that's about it. I don't even really like the song that much, heck the second track is better. *Sigh*

Background:
Born December 2nd (1995), Minase Inori is a rapidly rising star in the seiyuu world. She entered the seiyuu world in middle school, but was continuously cast as minor/side/background characters in anime. Her first major role was in the 2013 anime Love Lab as Tanahashi Suzune. The role that really brought her into the spotlight was as the character Chino from the hit anime Gochuumon wa Usagi des ka? In 2015, Minase debuted as a solo singer with the single Yume no Tsubomi.

Inorin is an extremely talented seiyuu and I venture to say she's the next Yuuki Aoi. Her range is incredible and I'm so happy to see her getting more big roles. She's such a gem and after reading a story about her wanting to quit after years of being cast as side characters, I'm simply ecstatic she's in the spotlight right now. At the time of this post, Inorin has just won the award for Best Actress at the 10th Seiyuu Award ceremony and I freaked when I saw this. As a seiyuu, she has massive talent and potential, and as a singer she's diverse and full of surprises. She's truly one to look out for.

Background:
Singer Shishido Kavka's newest single; track one used as the theme song to NHK drama "Toothbrush / Female Friends", track 2 used as the 22nd opening theme to anime 'Fairy Tail'. Released January 27th (2016).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Track 1 (crying) is a slightly moody song, but still contains traces of some good rock. Both tracks are heavy on the drums, which is probably to be expected considering Shishido is a drummer. As a result both songs have very strong and slightly complex drum beats and it certainly makes this release stand out to me. Add Fairy Tail to the equation and you have my new jam.

Pile's second album is strong and diverse. The self-titled release shows off her fluid singing abilities by featuring music styles such as rock and jazz. It's a strong album for this rising singer and I really like it. The album gets you going right at the beginning with track 1, which translates into 'Checkmate'. It's a pop-rock tune that's easy to dance too. The album ends on a more calming note with 'P.S. Arigato...' after taking you on a musical roller coaster just moments before. Great work from a gifted singer.

Besides the fact that they actually play real instrumental when they do lives, there's really nothing special about this unit. I have yet to hear of any band-oriented seiyuu units, so I was really anticipating this release, but I guess I got my hopes up too much. The character designs are cute, the lead vocalist's singing is cute, and according to the character profiles on the website, each one of them has a very stereotypical anime-girl personality. Basically, this band is nothing to get too hyped about. They're pleasant and standard, that's about it. I don't even really like the song that much, heck the second track is better. *Sigh*

Background:
Born December 2nd (1995), Minase Inori is a rapidly rising star in the seiyuu world. She entered the seiyuu world in middle school, but was continuously cast as minor/side/background characters in anime. Her first major role was in the 2013 anime Love Lab as Tanahashi Suzune. The role that really brought her into the spotlight was as the character Chino from the hit anime Gochuumon wa Usagi des ka? In 2015, Minase debuted as a solo singer with the single Yume no Tsubomi.

Inorin is an extremely talented seiyuu and I venture to say she's the next Yuuki Aoi. Her range is incredible and I'm so happy to see her getting more big roles. She's such a gem and after reading a story about her wanting to quit after years of being cast as side characters, I'm simply ecstatic she's in the spotlight right now. At the time of this post, Inorin has just won the award for Best Actress at the 10th Seiyuu Award ceremony and I freaked when I saw this. As a seiyuu, she has massive talent and potential, and as a singer she's diverse and full of surprises. She's truly one to look out for.

Ringo's Thoughts:
Utae's style is obviously electronic dreamy-pop and I welcome it; it's a genre I quite enjoy. All the songs are very chill with psychedelic undertones. It's rather interesting and a bit awkward to explain.

Background:
Singer Shishido Kavka's newest single; track one used as the theme song to NHK drama "Toothbrush / Female Friends", track 2 used as the 22nd opening theme to anime 'Fairy Tail'. Released January 27th (2016).

Ringo's Thoughts:
Track 1 (crying) is a slightly moody song, but still contains traces of some good rock. Both tracks are heavy on the drums, which is probably to be expected considering Shishido is a drummer. As a result both songs have very strong and slightly complex drum beats and it certainly makes this release stand out to me. Add Fairy Tail to the equation and you have my new jam.

Ringo's Thoughts:
Pile's second album is strong and diverse. The self-titled release shows off her fluid singing abilities by featuring music styles such as rock and jazz. It's a strong album for this rising singer and I really like it. The album gets you going right at the beginning with track 1, which translates into 'Checkmate'. It's a pop-rock tune that's easy to dance too. The album ends on a more calming note with 'P.S. Arigato...' after taking you on a musical roller coaster just moments before. Great work from a gifted singer.
