Girl band trio SHISHAMO's first release of 2016 and their third major studio album. They have released two albums prior to this titled SHISHAMO and SHISHAMO 2. This album was released March 2nd.
Ringo's Thoughts:
So either Japan has seen an incredible increase in girl bands as of late or more are coming into the spotlight. I personally believe it's a bit of both an it's very welcome.
SHISHAMO is an all girls pop-rock trio that debuted in 2013 with the mini album Sotsugyou Seisaku. This album has an overall mellow tone to it, more leaning into the pop side instead of rock, but while sticking to traditional band instruments. Asako (the vocalist) has an airy voice. It's very light and not overbearing or particularly powerful, but still pleasant on the ears. This group isn't indie any longer but they're not exactly mainstream either, though they are quite popular. So I guess their semi-indie? Hmm. Either way this band is a great addition to any Japanese indie lovers' musical library. If you like the likes of Silent Siren and what not, I think giving this band a look is worth your time.
