Single Review: I kill
[WARNING]: The PV linked below contains graphic and possibly triggering content. Watch at your own discretion.
Background:
Idol rock band DEEP GIRL's second single; released February 17th.
Ringo's Thoughts:
DEEP GIRL is a brand new idol rock group and while their first single was decent, this second single-particularly the PV-is sure to put them in some sort of spotlight. The PV for I kill is certainly unique as it displays sensitive content such as bullying, self-harm, and prostitution. The Youtube video has over 60k views, which is extremely impressive for a fledgling idol group in a country where idols pop up in seemingly never-ending quantities. Getting to the music itself, the song is actually pretty good. The only problems I have is that most of it consists of words spoken to the beat instead of actual singing, as well the chorus being kinda short. Other than those I must tip my hat to these girls, as they have taken a daring path since bullying is practically a taboo subject in Asian countries. The lyrics are also very powerful, as they mock the audience as if the song is the bully and the listener is the unfortunate victim. However, there is also the side where the song acts as the victim as well, at painfully spoken lines such as; "someone please listen to my voice!" DEEP GIRL has certainly made a name for themselves already and I'm very curious as to what their next single will be themed.
